Planned experiments
1. Measuring brightness of the sky at different elevations.
Instruments: S.Q.M. Experiment: - daily measurements 1 and 2 hours after sunset - (timetable in the appendix) Results: Observational data of measurements of the brightness of the sky at various elevations and changing light pollution.
2. Time-lapse of orographic clouds
Instruments: various cameras and lenses (Canon 300d, Canon 350d, Sigma 10-20/3,5 and Sigma 50-120/5,5 lenses) Experiment: Recording orographic clouds in 3s intervals (depending on the duration of the phenomena) during ascent to the final station of Kalapatar at 5600m above sea level. Results: Unique data about orographic cloud development and lifecycle in high altitude environs.
3. Photographying night sky and recording movements of stars around the equatorial line
Instruments: EQ2 paralactic mount, Canon 300d + GRIP, Sigma 10-20/3,5 lens Experiment: Photographying with exp. time of 60sec during 4 hours (dark, flat, bias) Result: Edited photographs (subtraction of dark, flat, bias images) of the stars capturing their movement above and under the equatorial line.
4. Photographying night sky and recording star arcs above Khumbu icefield.
Instruments: tripod, Canon 300d + GRIP, Sigma 10-20/3,5 lens Experiment: Photographs with exp. time of 1-2mins during 4 hours (dark, flat, bias) Result: Unique images of star trails around Polaris.
5. Photographying night sky – life of stars above the Roof of the World.
Instruments: tripod, Canon 300d + GRIP, Sigma 10-20/3,5 lens Experiment: Photographs with exp. time of 1-2mins during 4 hours (dark, flat, bias) Result: Unique images of star trails above Mount Everest.
6. Astrophotography of the Sun in Halfa
Instruments: Halfa telescope 70/700, DSI Meade CCD Experiment: CCD Imaging in Halfa Result: Photographs of the Sun taken at extreme elevations (to be compared with images taken at much lower levels).
7. Astrophotography of Deep Sky Objects
Instruments: EQ2 paralactic mount, refractor 50/500, Canon 350d Experiment: Photographying with exp. times of 10-15 x 10min (dark, flat, bias) Result: Edited photographs (subtraction of dark, flat, bias images) of M31 and M33 galaxies, M13 and M92 globular clusters and other visible deep sky objects.
