Night of the Perseids over Blahová: 1,597 Meteors in a Single All-Sky Panorama

A single night, 4 cameras at the Blahová (SK) observation station, and 1,597 recorded meteors: the breathtaking panoramic composite of the Perseid meteor shower peak (August 12/13, 2026) is complete. The data from station in Blahová (SK) was processed by Jakub Koukal using his custom-built Meteor Star Stacker software - the very same technology behind the sister composite featured on NASA APOD (Astronomy Picture of the Day) on August 22, 2026.

This multi-camera composite (pseudo all-sky) is far more than a simple photo mosaic: it unifies the entire night's meteor activity into a mathematically precise celestial projection. Alongside the prominent radiant of the Perseids, the accurate astrometric alignment clearly reveals weaker meteor streams, including the kappa Cygnids and the Antihelion complex.

Key Processing Highlights:

·         Automated Masking & Hot-Pixel Correction: Defective pixels are reconstructed prior to reprojection, preventing false meteor streak artifacts.

·         Photometric Normalization: Smooths out gradient differences caused by humidity and light pollution near field boundaries.

·         Pseudo All-Sky Stacking: Combines camera coverage into a unified zenithal azimuthal-equidistant projection while preserving natural sky conditions.
