Weather Report: Worsening Drought and Historical Heatwaves in June 2026

June 2026 presented extreme and concerning weather patterns in Blahová and the surrounding observation network. Although the first half of the month brought a few light local showers, the total monthly rainfall fell dramatically short of the long-term average. Combined with a severe heatwave in the final third of the month, this resulted in extreme topsoil drying.

Weather Report: Worsening Drought and Historical Heatwaves in June 2026

Rainfall: Severe Water Deficit and a Completely Dry Late June

The long-term June rainfall norm for the region (Kráľová pri Senci) is 61.0 mm. None of our stations came anywhere near this requirement. The highest monthly total was recorded in Lehnice-Sása, reaching only a subpar 34.5 mm. Malý Lég collected 26.5 mm, Blahová 22.0 mm, Dunajská Streda 20.9 mm, and Janíky registered a critical low of 17.6 mm.

Almost the entire monthly precipitation was concentrated around June 9 and 10 (Lehnice-Sása measured 15.0 mm on June 9, and Blahová gathered 9.9 mm on June 10). Following this short damp period, a severe dry spell began: after June 21, not a single drop of rain was registered across our network, highlighting an alarming summer drought.

Temperature: Mild Beginning Followed by a Record-Breaking Heatwave

The first half of June featured pleasant, moderate summer conditions. June 16 brought a particularly crisp morning, with the minimum temperature in Blahová dropping to +7.9 °C.

However, a radical shift occurred on June 19 as a massive African air mass surged into the region, initiating a relentless, escalating heatwave. The absolute peak occurred on June 29, when maximum afternoon temperatures reached an astonishing +38.5 °C in Blahová. Daily highs consistently exceeded +36 °C from June 26 onward, and the month concluded with tropical nights (on June 27 and 30, nighttime minimums stayed above +22 °C), causing severe heat stress.
